So - back in the early days of S/4HANA, Near Zero Downtime was one of the great promises (OK, more in the context of On Prem upgrades) - which seemed like a good thing.
With S4HC, you get a LOT of downtime (fortnightly patching; quarterly releases etc) - so that the system really doesn't work for a 24*7 business.
Do SAP have any plans in the pipeline to provide better service availability? This would obviously make the solution more attractive to a far wider client base!
Any news here that can be shared?
Hi,
Near Zero downtime works based on a trigger activation at database concept. All changes are captured once triggers are activated at DB level and then these changes can be replicated to either a new system/or shadow instance.
In S/4HC - we only have a single productive instance and therefore it will be interesting to see how NZDT can be of benefit here. I have not heard/seen anything in this regard for S/4HC yet.
Best,
Sandeep

It's an interesting one...
...technically how it's done is one question (and way over my head) - but there is definitely a business need for it - both to make the solution feasible to businesses who operate 24*7; managing quarterly upgrades more seamlessly; and also for being able to deploy additional countries / scope items without being forced into a change freeze position
