Business Roles: Catalog management - Increase in catalog count when creating duplicate business role for separate Company Code

Hello,

A colleague and I have found what appears to be a bug in S4HC that we would like to understand better. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Scenario:

1. We have been tasked with creating business roles for each country in an effort to separate business roles by Company Code.

  • Example - We have created a business role Accounts Payable Accountant for the US and Account Payable Accountant for Canada. If you look at the screenshots of the associate catalogs for each Business Role. You will notice that Accounts Payable Accountant for the US has 25 assigned business catalogs whereas Accounts Payable Accountant for Canada has 48 assigned business roles.

  • Issue - Why are there more assigned business catalogs for the Accounts Payable Accountant for Canada than the US?

    Thanks!

    Hi Mark,

Business role templates group several business catalogs for a defined business purpose. There is a coarse granular cut per job or persona performing a given set of business tasks. Check if the predefined business role templates correspond to your business requirements:

    • If yes, then use them to define your business roles.

    • If not, combine business catalogs into a custom business role.

Country specific business role templates delivered by SAP having difference in number of assigned business catalogs due to country specific design/requirement for reports/KPIs/Applications.

In your case, I assume custom role has been created from the standard template delivered by SAP, which has 25-associated business catalogs, additionally other business catalogs added are country (provisioned in the system) specific. As a customer, you need to identify the business requirement & decide which combination of business catalogs are required from standard delivered templates.

In general, users will be granted access to (subsets of) functionality through assignment of authorizations in terms of business roles. Further limitations of the permissions, for example on instance level, will be governed by restrictions. Restrictions provide a convenient way for customers' administrators to define a finer granular access to the according resources.

A business catalog constitutes a self-contained unit from an application domain point of view. A business catalog bundles:

    1) a set of functionality in terms of (Fiori) applications, reports, KPIs, etc. Reports are of analytical nature, like a Design Studio report or some other analytical report variant. KPI provides a measured entity and is associated with a threshold for this entity. (Fiori) applications, reports or KPIs each have a set of system entry points.

    2) a set of authorizations associated to each application, report, KPI.

    3) a set of restrictions which further adjust and confine the authorizations; the restrictions are defined as restriction fields of a certain restriction type; one restriction type is associated to a catalog and several catalogs may be associated to a restriction type.

    Hope this will help.

    Hi Shirish,

The same Template was leveraged for both copies (BR_AP_ACCOUNTANT). 'Canada' was only added manually to the description of the role, it was not copied from a Country Specific template.

Most of the new catalogs are Material Management related. My assumption is that by activating new scope items, additional catalogs and functionality become available to the Business Roles. Is this correct?

    Thank you,

    Hi Chris,

There might be possibility that by activating new scope items, additional catalogs and functionality become available to the Business Roles. Better I would like suggest to raise a ticket to SAP to get RCA in detail.

Have you compared the new business catalogs also available in the Country specific business role templates? You can check by using "Business Role Templates" app.

    BR,

    Shirish.
