Hello,
Is there a possibility to update existing master data with a new data migration file?
We have tried (just for fun) to upload twice the same data in the Data Migration Cockpit. The system raises a warning to tell that those entries will just be ignored.
So it seems that updates are not supported. Is there an option we haven't seen that would allow updates?
Theorically, our data files are perfectly clean and need to be imported just once. Theorically... And as we do not have a "client" dedicated to data migration and it's convenient refresh procedure...
Thanks in advance,
Nicolás
Hi,
Migration cockpit doesn't support UPDATE/DELETE yet. Moreover this is a tool for one time initial data loads.
However, there are options to perform mass updates to Business partners/material master data elements using MDG related apps like "Manage Mass Maintenance - Products, Business Partners, BP Relationships ". For some of these apps an additional license may be required.
Best.

Hi
we had similar issues and where there is only one Q client, there is only one shot to get it right. There is now a 'material extend' which you can use to add in additional plants/sales orgs/purchasing orgs, but that too has limitations e.g. we have a new plant added under the existing sales org - the material extend adds the stock views for the new plant but we cannot use the 'extend' to create the required sales/General view for the plant.
One approach we adopted was we pre-fixed the material numbers for subsequent loads so we could run multiple trail data migrations.
Maybe 1811 will provide more options
regards
Irene

Hi Nicolas,
Regarding your concern about data quality, please note that there is a step of data validation before creation:
"What tools can be use to validate the data migration status per migration object?
You can use the "Data Migration Status" app via the application group "Data Migration (since SAP S/4HANA Cloud 1805)
Needed role: SAP_BR_CONFIG_EXPERT_DATA_MIG"

Hello Paul,
You are rigth, but the scope of validation process during the migration is limited to the current file. Many errors will show up when running processes that will use those data...
For instance, if the GR/IR option is incorrectly set on the vendor master data, the validation will not say anything. You will discover the mistake when you will try to post invoices related to PO created with these vendors.

I believe you can use the mass change apps for some of the master data elements to update them, but in my experience the data migration tools can only be used to create new records (we use it all the time to add new suppliers as an example) not update existing ones.
