Regression test identification - suggestion for the community to support

Hi All

as we approach the 1811 release, we have to assess what functionality we need to test and which test scripts we need to use. Wouldn't it be great if SAP helped to identify the Test scripts using something like Track Changes so that the teams can easily identify what has changed ?

For anyone in the community, I would encourage you to be an active member of the 'Customer Influence' forum where feedback from people outside of SAP who are implementing S4HC can feed ideas for SAP's consideration for upcoming new functions/changes.

And to my question - there is an Influence request already raised Track Changes in Test Scripts with each Release - the more votes this has, the more chance is has to succeed. Please support this initiative with your Vote - this would help significantly in that 2 week window of regression testing !!

regards

Irene

P.s It was not my Influence item but I strongly support it !

Hi eyegordon ,

I agree wholeheartedly that SAP should be doing more to help identify release changes for their customers since they know what scope items we've activated and transactions we use. Two weeks goes by very quick and if you don't identify issues early in that testing window your chance of getting them addressed before the release moves into production reduces dramatically. I continue to discuss this with the S/4HANA Cloud Product team when I talk to them. They have made some progress on things like the what's new viewer which shows new, changed and deprecated items by release:

I would also encourage you to check out the release page within the cloud community site which is growing into a good hub to get release info:

Just curious, but are you using the Test Automation tool to setup your own scripts and run at each release? SAP generally makes the practice of testing every new release against their standard best practice scripts. While the test automation tool is only as good as the custom scripts you make for it does give you a good head start in determining what business processes have had a change to focus your initial efforts. It saved us days of work vs manually testing scripts.

Great post!

Hi Ryan

thanks for your post.

Yes, we are already using the automated testing scripts and also SAP's offering of carrying out their own tests on our client immediately after the upgrade ( also a good offering from SAP ). I think the track changes in the scripts for me, is the remaining link we would love to have.

Irene

Yes completely agree, the more efficient we can make regression means more time to explore new features!

eyegordon, two thumbs up for this post! First, yes this is a good idea and worthy of discussion here. Second, and most impressive, is the motion to encourage use of the Customer Influence programme! This is exactly the right way to improve our product.

Cheers,

Gerard Koelmeyer

P.S. You'll see that I have also voted in support of this Improvement Request.

Hi Irene, all,

thanks for your post and your improvement proposal.

@ gerard.koelmeyer, the customer influence portal was the perfect hint. This is the best way to communicate improvement requests to SAP. For this topic, a request was raised:

https://influence.sap.com/sap/ino/#/idea/218982/?section=sectionDetails

...and SAP took action:

1) Starting from 1902, you find a new accelerator in SAP Roadmap Viewer, that informs about changes in the test documents available in SAP Best Practice Explorer. This "test script release change information" accelerator will be available here: SAP Roadmap Viewer (-> Run phase, regression testing)

2) In the test tool itself, you can filter in "manage your test processes" app for standard test automats that have been changed compared to the previous release. (Filter for: changed, new, unchanged)

3) In the JAM Group for test automation tool, a "what´s new" document will be available in a few days, describing the changes at the test automats in more detail. Here is the link to the JAM Group (access via mail to: saps4hanacloudtesttool@sap.com): https://jam4.sapjam.com/groups/cV7QTcV4VOELEZyXEwJDkM/content

I hope this could help!

Best,

Susanne
