Custom output type

Hello All,

In the current business scenario, we need to implement Bill of Lading output print in the system, but i cant find any output type in the OPD configuration, since i am able to create a new Z template, but how to trigger the output type for the same, can i create a custom output type for generating Bill of Lading?

Hi Vincent,

A bill of lading (B/L) by definition is a document that must be issued by the carrier to the shipper for container shipping. The B/L document is triggered from either the shipping instruction (SI) or the booking transaction.

It should contain the details about the goods such as the weight and the number of packages you are transporting. It is considered as a receipt for the goods, proof of the contract of carriage, and also a document of title for the carrier.

This functionality is specific to Ocean Liners business, which is currently not supported in S/4HANA cloud. So, even if you manage to create a custom output type for B/L, where do you intend to fetch the data from?

Can you please double check your business requirement and provide more details on the relevant scope item you are referring to?

Hi Sai,

I agree with your points mention, so here we are going to print the weight, no. of packages (will use custom field to pull the data), material description, quantity, consignee etc..

My concern is can i create a new output type and generate the print.

Hi Vincent,

Creation of new output type is restricted in standard solution. This is because S/4HANA cloud is driven by standard best practices (Scope items) and SAP has provided specific output types for each process (scope item).

As we recommend customers to implement best practices without any extensions, the same principle applies for output extensions as well.

You can still explore the possibility of side-by-side extension, considering the criticality of your business need.
