Product Vs Material

Hi

we have recently implemented S4HC for a manufacturing customer. In doing this, it has been very confusing for users with the mix of terminology 'Product' and 'material'. Some apps refers to 'product's and others as 'material'. In addition, whilst the 'material master' does not seem to have provision to remove fields from the screen ( no adaptive UI or SSCUI config option ), 'product' does - but the 'Product' app does not contain all the fields available in 'material' particularly around costing/QM/PP fields.

Question is : what is SAP's strategy - will 'product' become the generic name and usage eventually  ? If so, when would 'product' replace 'material' completely ? could all apps be aligned in terminology ?

regards

Irene

HI Irene ,

The term Product is used to refer to any object that includes products, materials, articles, and services.

New Apps will refer to Product going forward . As the term Material is widely used in apps / functionality like the "material master" app its not possible to update all to align with the same naming convention but to be phased in our time

In addition to this, in the new apps, we now refer to material type as product type and material group as product group. Under the product type, we now have a new type SERV to refer to services.

Sorry cant provide better response but hopefully it will answer some of your questions
