Best practices to update the business roles after an upgrade

Hello,

Each quarterly upgrade may bring some modifications in the business catalogs.

Some business catalog become deprecated; some business catalogs are created; the list of business calalogs of some business role templates may be updated.

We can easily spot the deprecated business catalogs... How can we spot the new business catalogs?

More generally, what are the best practices to update our business roles further to an upgrade?

In our current project, we did make the choice to create our business roles as strict copies of the SAP templates. Was this choice the most accurate?

Is there a best practice to keep our business roles in line with their corresponding templates?

Hello Nicolas,

As Claire says below it is typically manual at present. The easiest way is to use the Business Catalogues Fiori app and then filter on the date last changed.

Make sure to use a date that precedes the "Release to Customer" date of the last release. So for looking at whats changed for 1902 release you may want to select based on a date no later than 31 Jan or earlier such as 31 Dec. From there you can see which business roles are impacted.

As for the choice around copying SAP roles, only you can judge whether that works best for your organisation however one benefit would be being able to use the SAP delivered test scripts with very minor changes.

I have found that it's a bit of a manual process - reviewing the business roles you are using against the standard business role templates (from which the role was originally created) - and adding any new catalogues...

Would be good to know if there is a more automated way to do this - and if not - definitely something for SAP to add to the roadmap?

The single source of information for Business Role/Business Catalog update are the Fiori Library App and in your S4HANA Cloud Tenant, it will be the Fiori App- IAM Information System.
