Influence request to view the config contained in projects (current or transported)

In S/4HC, I've found no way to know exactly what was transported between Q and P in each change project. The View Change History - Details app in Manage Your Solution for the projects only give you the details of who created the project and when it was moved, not the details of what went into it. Yes you can add text notes, but that isn't systemic and wouldn't pass an audit if someone asked to see what config was made in x project (see attached for the level of details currently available). I view this as a pretty large gap in change management for the system, particularly if you have more than one person making SSCUI changes at a time, and we need better visibility.

I've created an influence request to address this lack of visibility and functionality and I'd encourage you vote on it to get it addressed soon:

Hi Ryan,

As a part of SAP Activate Methodology for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP has given accelerators to track the changes in Configuration. The purpose of this task is to implement a process to track configuration changes made using the self-service configuration UIs (SSCUI) or via Expert Configuration. Tracking of changes along with the responsible person is a good governance practice and may be required by some industries and regulatory organizations.

Using the Configuration Tracker accelerator, list the SSCUI and expert configuration changes made. Alternatively, for SSCUIs, you could add comments for each SSCUI using the "Add Comment" feature in the Configure Your Solution. During the change phase, you can see all the comments using the View Change History app in Manage Your Solution. See accelerator Using Configure Your Solution and SSCUIs for additional instruction on accessing the change log for each SSCUI.

Compare the configuration in the Q-System with the P-System, after transporting a change to the P-System. Update the accelerator to confirm that the configuration was verified in the P-System.

Additional system logs can be obtained through the following processes.

Web GUI SSCUIs, a detailed change log for each SSCUI is possible. See the instructions in the Using Configure Your Solution and SSCUIs accelerator.

Fiori SSCUI changes: To see the detailed change log for a Fiori SSCUI, create an Incident/Service Request with the Subject ‘SSCUI Change Log’, Description ‘Please provide the SSCUI change log for SSCUIs <111111>, <222222>.' and component XX-S4C-SRV-CON. SAP will provide a download that shows the user ID, date/time of the change and the details of the fields changed or new records added. User IDs are not currently available for Fiori SSCUIs.

Pre-approved expert configuration: Create an Incident/Service Request with the Subject ‘Expert Configuration Change Log’, Description ‘Please provide the Expert Configuration change for activity IDs .' (e.g. SIMG_CFMENUORFAAM01) and component XX-S4C-SRV-CON. A change log can only be provided for an IMG activity which has had an approved expert configuration change. The activity ID can be determined from the Expert Configuration and SSCUI Reference accelerator.

Hi sqs_basis ,

Thanks for the details on the spreadsheet available as part of the activate methodology. While I agree it has value, it like the comments within the SSCUI are not systemic and not required, they're only as good and as disciplined as the users that are doing the config. If an auditor came up to me and requested to see a system log of all of the changes transported in our last 5 change projects giving them a user generated spreadsheet isn't going to meet their requirement (in fact it would be what is tested against the system generated item level transport log in ideal circumstances to prove our change controls are working).

What I'm after (and I'm betting a bunch of other companies and system admins) is what actually was transported directly from the system.

Thanks,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I completely agree with you. Since transport activities (automated process by SAP) done in the back end system ‎@ the time of every quarterly upgrade, this is what all customers are getting as a part of S/4HANA Cloud design. From the audit perspective, also customer are not able to get the report like we get in ECC version (SM20n). There are some other cons like we are unable to check/trace missing authorization for user (In ECC, we use SU53). But again it is a S/4HANA Cloud standard.

I hope SAP will come up with these features in future releases.

BR,

Shirish.
